The theme for the 2017 District 5190 Speech Contest is “What ‘Rotary Serving Humanity’ means, personally, and in my own words.” Thalia Routsis has been working with the IHS English teachers to publicize and identify potential candidates. The local high school speech contest is Thursday March 23 at our meeting at 7am. Two winners will go on to compete in the Area Speech Contest April 13 at Truckee High School. First place prize is $150, 2nd is $100 and 3rd is $50. The Area 3 winners will seek the top spots at the 2017 District 5190 Conference held at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on May 20. Prizes at the district level are $1,000 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place and $500 for 3rd place.
